Abstract-This paper aims to study antonymy to novels past and
present.
The importance of this research is presented first, the definition of antonyms and its classification is illustrated by example. The focus of this paper is to compare the use of antonyms in novel past and present that knowing and understanding antonyms can help understand the different word antonymy between the past and present.

I.INTRODUCTION
The most important areas in linguistics are synonymy, antonymy and hyponimy,etc. Contradiction of meaning or antonym,
one of the areas that have long been important as human thought and language are closely related.Lyons (1968) say that "humans have a general tendency to polarize experience and research for opposite thinking".
Antonymy is very useful as one relationship in semantics. Antonimy are words that have contradictory meanings in various word sequences in whole or whole words.For example, soft x hard, down x ride, poor x rich, hell x heaven, female x male, bottom x top. The definition of antonym is derived from "ancient Greek" ie "onoma which means 'name' and anti which means 'to resist'. "For example the word 'bad' anonymous with the word 'nice', the word 'small' anonymous with the word 'big' .Such as synonyms, antonyms are owned at all sentence levels: word level, morpheme level, phrase level, and language level.

II.METHODOLOGY RESEARCH

that “qualitative research is a scientific research, which aims to understand a
phenomenon in a natural social context by emphasizing the process of deep
communication interaction between researchers with the phenomenon studied
(Herdiansyah, 2010: 9)”.

15), concluded that” the method of skin research is a method of research based

objects, (as opposed to experiments) where the researchers are as key
instrument, the sampling of data sources is done purposively and snowbaal,
collecting techniques with triangulation (combined), data analysis is inductive
/ qualitative, and qualitative research results more emphasis on the meaning of
the generalization.
III.RESULT
Antonimy is having
words whose meaning contradicts one another. Antonim is often referred to as
the opposite of the word.The use of the word antonym is widely used in everyday
life, one of them in the novel. Antonim has several types, namely:
1. Antonim in Pairs
The
twin antimony is an antonym that uses resistance between two words.
For
example: a dead word opposite to life.
2. Antonim
Compound
The
plural antonyms are antonyms that use many words.
For example: the sentence of the house is
green in contrast to the house is red.
3. Antonim Gradual
The
gradual Antonim is an antonym that has a degree of resistance.
For
example: simple house x luxury homes.
4. The hierarchical hierarchy is the antonym that
the resistance says in a storied position. For example: May x June.
5. Relational Antenna
The
relational Antonim is the second antonym that he says is intertwined.
An
example is the word wife and husband.
Verhaar in Padeta
(2001) says that "distinguishes antonyms based on the system as follows.

example:
he is sick and he does not hurt.
2.Antonim antarfrasa,
example: regularly and irregularly.
3.Antonim antarkata,
for
example: eating and drinking. "
According to Vehaar and Chaer (2009), "Antonymy is an expression (usually a word, but can also be in the form of a phrase or phrase) whose meaning is considered the opposite of the meaning of another expression,

IV.DISCUSSIONS
